Rugby

We went to see a Rugby game today. Simeon was scrolling through his news feed and saw that our cousin had a game today at 5:30. We looked at the clock: 5:00. It takes half hour to get there so we had just enough time! 5 minutes later we were out the door.

I always thought Rugby was Football without the pads.. but that is not the case. Rugby is pretty different from football. When the ball hits the ground the play still continues. The goal is to touch the ball down in the end zone- this is called a “try” and is worth 5 points. Then the players may kick for a field goal which is an extra 2 points. The catch is that wherever the ball is touched down in the end zone, they have to kick from that spot.

The lineout. This happens when the ball goes out of bounds. The players line up and hoist their smallest player to catch the ball. It’s kind of like a jump ball in basketball.

This is called a “scrum”.

The players try and kick the ball back to their teammates in the scrum.

^This dude was big. Everyone kept trying to tackle him and he just kept on going.

He was finally stopped.

If someone fumbles the ball, either team can pick it up and keep running.

Another lineout. The numbers on their jerseys correspond with their positions.

Another scrum- these happened a lot.

Players can throw the ball as many times as they want as long as it’s a lateral (sideways or back) pass so they line up like this ^ and when they’re about to get tackled, they pass it back.

They opposing team won but they all played a great game!
